CZ and SMARTSHOOTER Combine the CZ BREN Platform with Advanced Fire Control Technology
Česká zbrojovka a.s. (CZ) is expanding its cooperation with Israeli company SMARTSHOOTER, a specialist in the development of advanced SMASH fire control systems. Integrating this technology with CZ BREN rifles delivers a modern, compact solution that significantly enhances an individual soldier’s ability to accurately engage moving ground targets and small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS).
The SMASH family of systems uses advanced image processing, automatic target tracking, and ballistic calculations. The system tracks a selected target and continuously determines the optimal moment for an accurate shot. This significantly increases the probability of hitting dynamic targets while reducing the impact of factors such as stress, soldier fatigue, and target movement. The technology is designed to engage both ground targets and small unmanned aerial systems, during day and night operations.
One of the key advantages of this solution is its compact design and ability to be integrated directly onto a soldier’s individual weapon. SMASH systems can be mounted on standard weapon interfaces without the need for a separate, specialized weapon platform. Combined with CZ BREN rifles, this creates a solution that expands the capabilities of standard individual weapons and can provide an additional layer of protection against modern aerial threats.
Visitors to the ongoing Future Forces 2026 exhibition in Prague can also see the integration of the CZ BREN platform with the SMASH fire control system. This solution is on display at the CZ stand in Hall 2, Booth 220, where CZ is showcasing its portfolio of firearms and technologies designed for modern armed forces.
The growing importance of small unmanned aerial systems is fundamentally changing the conditions of the modern battlefield. Traditional air defense and electronic warfare systems are not designed to address every threat encountered in the immediate vicinity of individual soldiers and small units. SMASH technology adds a kinetic engagement capability directly at the individual soldier level, enabling personnel to counter small unmanned aerial threats using their standard-issue weapons.
At the same time, the system remains straightforward to operate. Once a target has been selected, it can automatically track it and continuously update the ballistic solution through its integrated fire control computer. The technology supports various types of ammunition and, depending on the specific system variant, can also be connected to external sensors, C4I systems, or Battle Management Systems.
Logistical considerations are another important factor for armed forces. SMARTSHOOTER emphasizes the low life-cycle costs of its SMASH systems, including reduced requirements for maintenance, training, and ammunition consumption. Combining SMASH technology with the CZ BREN platform can therefore provide additional capabilities without the need to develop an entirely new weapon system.
The SMASH family is designed for a wide range of operational applications, and SMARTSHOOTER technology is already in service with, or being introduced by, armed forces in several countries. Its continued development reflects the growing need to effectively engage fast-moving, small-sized targets.
The cooperation between CZ and SMARTSHOOTER brings together the proven CZ BREN platform and advanced fire control technology, creating a compact solution that meets the demands of the modern battlefield.
